Holding the Holders: Why Therapist Peer Support Circles Matter Now More Than Ever

At National Deaf Therapy, we know what it means to hold space for others while navigating the emotional terrain of our own lives. We show up—session after session—creating safety, making room for pain, and offering hope. And many of us do that while moving through the world as Deaf therapists, clinicians working in ASL, or culturally attuned mental health providers who understand that healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

But who holds us?

That’s the heart behind Alison’s Peer Support Group for Therapists, a gentle, supportive space opening this June for those of us who give so much. It’s a four-week gathering—held weekly on Zoom—where we’ll come together, therapist to therapist, to check in with ourselves and with one another.

Because the truth is, this work can feel heavy. Especially now.

“Since 2020, it has been a challenging time to live through. On top of that, we’ve been trying to navigate these times while also supporting the people who come to us for therapy—holding space for our own healing while also holding them.”

That’s Alison’s invitation. And it’s one we believe in deeply.

This group is especially meaningful if you are a Deaf therapist or provide therapy in ASL. Many of us are navigating systems that weren’t built with us in mind, while offering care to communities who carry layers of trauma, marginalization, and invisibility. Online therapy for Deaf clientsculturally responsive therapy, and showing up as an embodied, attuned clinician—it all takes a toll.

This isn’t a clinical training. It’s not a place to perform or present. It’s a circle. A space to exhale, to reflect, and to connect.

At National Deaf Therapy, we’ve always believed that when therapists feel seen, our clients and communities are better held. So if you’re feeling tired, stretched thin, or quietly craving connection—you’re not alone.

If you’re a Deaf therapist, therapist of color, or someone serving on the margins—this space is for you.
Let this be a place where you get to feel supported, too.
